Gospel Reflection

Before Jesus left earth to be reunited with God the Father, He gave His disciples an order to continue the mission He started of sharing God’s message of love and hope with everyone in the world. And in His infinite wisdom, Jesus knew they could not do it alone. They needed to fully understand their Master’s teachings, have the wisdom to debate Jewish loyalists and convert pagans, and be courageous to endure persecution from the Romans and Pharisees. They needed His power and authority. And it came to them during the feast of Pentecost in the form of the Holy Spirit.

The Church has come a long way over the past two thousand years, and it still stands today because of the guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit. But that is only one-half of the equation. God entrusted man to be His hands and His voice. It is up to us to keep this all going, so that our sons and daughters and their sons and daughters may come to know who God is. “Spread His word!”

Let it be, let it be done unto me

Preparation of the Gifts | Stella Maris

Kung itong aming paglalayag
Inabot ng pagkabagabag
Nawa’y mabanaagan ka
Hinirang na tala ng umaga

Kahit alon man ng pangamba
Di alintana sapagkat naro’n ka
Ni unos ng pighati
At kadiliman ng gabi

Maria sa puso ninuman
Ika’y tala ng kalangitan
Ningning mo ay walang pagmamaliw
Inang sinta, Inang ginigiliw

Tanglawan kami aming ina
Sa kalangitan naming pita
Nawa’y maging hantungang
Pinakamimithing kaharian

Maria sa puso ninuman
Ika’y tala ng kalangitan
Ningning mo ay walang pagmamaliw
Inang sinta, Inang ginigiliw

Gospel Reflection

For all the things we may have done in our lives, we hope that our God is a merciful one. And indeed, He is! There is nothing that can separate us from Him except for our foolish pride. Only when we humble ourselves do we know and grasp the full extent of His love. And only when we humble ourselves can we attempt to love like Him.

The all-powerful and living God stepped down from His throne to serve the meek and the poor. Jesus befriended the unlovable and the hated, no matter the cost to His reputation or His credibility. He endured every kind of suffering and humiliation on His way to Calvary, just to reconcile us with the Father, even though He deserved none of the punishment. Do we have it in us to do as He did?

Yes, we do. From the moment we were baptized, we were given the gifts of the Holy Spirit–the same Spirit that descended upon the Apostles and made it possible for God’s message of love and forgiveness to spread across the land. Their mission, in essence, has become ours. Are you willing to accept it?

Gathering | All Creatures of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voices, let us sing
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Bright, burning sun with golden beams
Soft silver moon that gently gleams
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

All you with mercy in your heart
Forgiving others, take your part
O sing now! Alleluia!
All you that pain and sorrow bear
Praise God, and cast on Him your care
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

[Skip Bridge and fast-forward to 3:19]

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise God the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, three in one
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Responsorial Psalm |

I will praise Your name forever, my King and my God

Let all your works give you thanks, O LORD,
and let your faithful ones bless you.
Let them discourse of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might.

R./ I will praise Your name forever, my King and my God
I will praise Your name forever, my King and my God

Let them make known your might to the children of Adam,

Gospel Reflection

“Come out of the dark and into the light.”

When we sin, we would like to think nobody is watching. We try to cover it up or push it away, hoping that’s the end of it. But more often than not, sin comes back to rear its ugly head, and we fall into an even deeper hole.

But if we just believe that someone is always there to pick us up (that person happens to be Jesus, by the way!), we don’t have to live in that vicious cycle. Jesus shines truth on our sinfulness, and the shame should be enough to desire something else, something better, something good. He is also extending His hand to you, in faith, because you deserve a second chance.

Believe that His light shines on you, that it has the power to change everything, and that in time, it will reveal something beautiful inside…you are not a beast.

Gathering | Christ, Be Our Light

Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
light for the world to see.

Christ, be our light!
Shine in our hearts.
Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in your church gathered today.

Preparation of the Gifts | Christify

Christify the gifts we bring to You,
bounty of the earth receive anew.
Take and bless the work of our hands.
Christify these gifts at Your command.

Sun and moon and earth and wind and rain:

All the toil and dreams of humankind,
all we are we bring as bread and wine.

Communion | Shine Through Us

Jesus, help us to spread
Your fragrance ev’rywhere we go
Flood our souls with Your Spirit and life
Penetrate and possess our whole being so utterly
that our lives may only be a radiance of You

Shine through us
and be so in us
that ev’ry soul we meet
may feel Your presence in our soul

Jesus, look up and see
no longer us but only Jesus
Stay with us, then we shall begin to shine
as You shine, so to shine,
as to be a light to others
the light, O Jesus, will be all from You
none from us

Shine through us
and be so in us
that ev’ry soul we meet
may feel Your presence in our soul
may feel Your presence in our soul

Closing | Shine Jesus Shine

fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light

Gospel Reflection

God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. But He also gave you the free will to decide, on your own, whether or not to reciprocate His love. We do this by following the example of His Son, Jesus. Everything Jesus did was good and pleasing to God. And because God is good all the time, everything that is good comes from Him. And because everything good comes from God, His will is for us to choose Him above everything else. This is why when Jesus’ disciples asked Him how to pray to the Father, Jesus replied, “Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven…” God already knows what’s best for us, but it is our responsibility to discern that. We must pray that we are able to resist the temptation to sin, which separates us from God. By making the right choice does our will become the Father’s. And it is by the Father’s will that we are saved.

Gospel Reflection

Has someone ever hurt you and it took a while for them to gain your trust again? Or maybe that relationship remained forever broken? We are truly blessed that the Lord doesn’t begrudge us our sins. But He DOES seek a true conversion of our hearts.

On the eve of Christ’s death, Peter denied knowing Him. Not once. Not twice. But three times! (Do you ever turn away from doing the right thing and take the easy way out? Do you ever just stand by and let injustices happen, especially to innocent people? Would you ever abandon a friend in their time of need?) This man was supposed to His “rock,” the foundation on which Jesus would build His church. How would that church survive if it the person leading it was so wishy-washy, so frail of heart, so lacking of courage?

God, in all His wisdom, knew we needed someone to look to for inspiration and hope. He doesn’t want us to despair from all our failures, even the ones that seem to happen time and time again. He knows our limitations and out of His goodness, gives us enough grace to recognize when we are wrong.

But we can tell God, until we are blue in the face, that we are going to change. We can tell ourselves that today is a new day or that we won’t fall back into our old habits. The truth is we’re not going to be perfect. But we can be better. And how do we do just that? We “feed His lambs and tend His sheep.”

Jesus gave us a mission to carry on the work that He started. He calls on us to change the world. We are to be His eyes, His ears, His hands, and His heart. How blessed are we to know Him and how He has changed our lives for good. Wouldn’t you want others to feel that same feeling? Are you selfless (or brave) enough to share Him with others??

You preserved me from among those going down into the pit

R./ I will praise you, Lord
I will praise you, Lord
for You have rescued me

Sing praise to the Lord, you His faithful ones
and give thanks to His holy name, His holy name
For His anger lasts but a moment
a lifetime, His good will
At nightfall, weeping enters in but with the dawn rejoicing

R./ I will praise you, Lord
I will praise you, Lord
for You have rescued me

[Verse 1]
Do you know where you stand
Do you know where your heart is
Are you Christ’s feet and hands
Or are you a part of the opposition

[Hook 1]
Open your heart
Let Jesus in
Open your soul
Let the freedom begin

[Chorus]
I’m livin’ on the rock of faith
I’m livin’ on the rock of healing
I’m doing everything I can
I’m doing everything I can
With every little act of love
I know I won’t deny You Lord
You’ll know where I stand
I’ll be standing on the rock of faith

[Bridge]
Faith can move a mountain of doubt
Love breaks through
And turns your life around
You can feel it
When the Spirit is flowing
You reveal it
God’s love will be showing
When you heed His word
And follow in His way

[Chorus]
I’m livin’ on the rock of faith
I’m livin’ on the rock of healing
I’m doing everything I can
I’m doing everything I can
With every little act of love
I know I won’t deny You Lord

I’ll be standing on the rock of faith
You’ll know where I stand

Your presence is Heaven to me

Treasure of my heart and of my soul
In my weakness You are merciful
Redeemer of my past and present wrongs
You’re the holder of my future days to come

Gospel Reflection

God’s love is forever and unchanging, and it is our choice whether or not to accept it. We show our love for Him by treating others with dignity and respect (“Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”), by spreading good will (“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”), by choosing to do what is right even when it may be difficult (“What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?”), and by trusting in His plan for our lives (“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.”).

However, it is inevitable that we will fall time and time again. Still, God is patient with us. And because He is love, he does not keep track of all our offenses. His love remains…endures…believing the best of us is yet to come. Who would bet against Him…?

Gathering | Save Your People

Save Your people, O Lord
Show us the way to come home
We have been wandering
far from Your love
Save Your people, O Lord
Save Your people, O Lord

Preparation of the Gifts | I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

I heard the voice of Jesus say
“I am this dark world’s light;
Look unto Me, your morn shall rise
and all your day be bright”
I looked to Jesus, and I found
in Him my star, my sun
And in that light of life, I’ll walk
’til traveling days are done

I will rest,
I will rest in,
I will rest in You

Communion | You Stand Knocking

You spoke my name
and took my hand
and called me friend
Such faithful love
so undeserved
a heart transformed
Though I wandered and have strayed
still Your mercy reigns

You were broken___for me
arms wide open on a tree
You stand knocking at the door
off’ring all I’m hoping for

To those in dark
the Lord cries out
“Come and be saved”
A long the way
we shall find rest
the Lord is good
For God comforts well His own
We are His alone

You were broken___for me
arms wide open on a tree
You stand knocking at the door
off’ring all I’m hoping for

You were broken___for me
arms wide open on a tree
You stand knocking at the door
off’ring all I’m hoping for

Closing | Hallelujah Is Our Song

What hope we have
even in the longest night
for the light will overcome
We will not fear
for we know the sun will rise
Hallelujah is our song

What peace we have
even in this wounded world
where the battle rages on
We will not fear
for we know who heals our souls
Hallelujah is our song

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
He is risen over all
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah is our song
